The High-Stakes Battle of Q4 E-commerce
For retail and Amazon clothing brands, the fourth quarter (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas) represents up to 40% of annual revenue. But Q4 is also a supply chain bottleneck. Factories face high-volume production queues, material mills slow down, and air and ocean cargo rates climb. A brand that submits orders in August is already too late. Protecting your holiday revenue requires a strict, backwards-planned sourcing calendar starting in the spring.
The Q4 Apparel Sourcing Timeline (Backwards Planned)
To have retail-ready, FBA-labeled inventory inside US/EU/UK warehouses by October 15th, backwards-plan your production cycle:
1. April 1 - April 30: Tech Packs & Styling Finalization
Develop complete tech packs, select knit GSM and colors, and finalize private-label designs. Start discussing fabric bookings with the factory to secure capacity before the rush.
2. May 1 - June 15: Sampling, Fit Approval & Lab Dips
Place sample POs. The factory builds physical samples and performs custom color lab dips. Verify fit, fabric density, and safety snaps. Approve pre-production (PP) samples by mid-June.
3. June 15 - August 1: Bulk Manufacturing Phase
The factory places fabric and dye orders. Bulk cutting, sewing, printing, and sewing are completed in 35-40 days. In-line AQL inspections and final metal detection scans occur in late July.
4. August 1 - August 10: Packaging, Barcoding & FBA Preparation
Complete individual packaging, apply ASIN/FNSKU barcodes, pack double-walled master cartons, and prepare customs paperwork for international shipping.
5. August 15 - October 1: Transit Phase (Ocean Freight)
Book sea freight from Chittagong port. Ocean transit to the US East Coast or UK ports takes 30-35 days, including customs clearance. (If shipping via air freight, transit can occur in mid-September, but air rates are up to 4x higher).
6. October 1 - October 15: Warehouse Distribution & Active FBA Check-in
Receive shipments at your 3PL or ship directly to Amazon FBA warehouses. Early October check-in avoids late-season congestion, ensuring your listings are active for Black Friday pre-sales.
